Most of us have heard the Bible story of 'John the Baptist'. I love to teach this story in my Kinder Sunday School Classroom as it has SO many great meanings and creative ways to relate this topic to the kiddos.
First, kiddos LOVE water! -And we can never remind them of the true joy and miracle of baptism enough. I like to start out the lesson by gathering up a small cup of water and some cute baby dolls. I let each kiddo take a turn dipping a touch of water on the baby to baptize just as John the Baptist did for Jesus.
Second, John the Baptist was a unique dude. He kind of was a little shall we say scruffy and apparently he ate some weird things (bugs ?). I love to chat about how it is not what is on the outside, but the inside that is important. Although John the Baptist looked a little 'different' he was so very, very important and had such a wonderful message to provide. It's often nice to talk to the kiddos about how it is important to truly listen to everyone, regardless of what they look like. Ask them how they try to listen and be kind to everyone at home and in school?
Finally, John the Baptist gives just a great message. He wants us to 'Repent,' which is a big word for our kinders or ask for forgiveness. Then, he just asks that we make great choices. John the Baptist was right on! Ask your little ones how they like to ask for forgiveness or provide examples of their great choices.
