This year Ash Wednesday falls on Valentine’s Day. This makes a great opportunity to learn that love can be more about hearts, flowers and candy. While those are so fun and much of a focus for our fun Valentine's Day Party, we can also learn that love is about sticking together, working as a team, and coming together when things might be a challenge. I like to spend so much time in my classroom focusing on us as a team. God created each and every one of us just how he wanted. Although we all have special talents and areas for improvement, we can ALWAYS accomplish more together!!! I am continuously asking the kiddos to put toys away as a pair, pass crafting supplies to one another, make room for each other at the carpet, and much, much more to show their love and build upon a sense of community.
On Wednesday, we will be discussing all the joys and wonder of the love that God has given us, and we will also touch upon how a cross on our forehead shows our commitment to His love even when we need to work hard at it and it might be a little bit tough (just as things were tough for Jesus sometimes).
Following is my 'Lent Head' that I LOVE having the kiddos create. It is a great way to get them crafting as we talk about the experience of getting ashes on our head during worship. It helps them learn about Ash Wednesday and makes them a little bit more comfortable. Click on the following picture if you would like to have the template as this is an easy and great at-home activity to help share in the Lenten Season with your littlests!
Overall, Wednesday will be a great day filled with learning of God's great love. Some of the focus will be on the plain old, fun and joy that God fills us with. -And some of our day will be spent on the type of love that might take a little effort. Both types are going to help us learn and grow!!!
