We had a short week last week and and a short one this week, as well. So, I want to take a moment to continue our learning and fun through exploring the season of Lent. We enjoyed the shared Valentine's / Ash Wednesday combo last week, but ran out of time to complete our 'Lent Head' craft. We discussed the concept of Ash Wednesday and 'practiced' receiving ashes, which many of our kiddos also received during our morning Ash Wed Service (the joy that our nursery school kiddos bring into the worship walls of our church is priceless. thank you so very much for sharing your kiddos with our congregation. It is a pure joy and gift from God). Since we ran out of time, we are still going to squeeze this project in this week as it beautifully reinforces the lenten season. The kiddos adore putting ashes on their own drawing, get to enhance those fine and gross motor skills, and we get to discuss the importance of our journey leading up to Easter. Click on the following for a link to the 'Lent Head' template.
I came across this great, adorable (& free) Lenten Calendar For Kids, which I LOVE!!!! I found it @ www.catholicicing.com (cute name). Click Here to download your own printable version. We will be pulling the following into our classroom this week and over the next several weeks. We will be getting some movement in by walking on 40 HUGE stepping stones to talk about our journey and several of the big moments on this journey (Ash Wed, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and of course EASTER Sunday!!!! We will also use this timeline to pull in some STEM activities in regards to basic addition concepts and practicing counting together up to 40.
While the theme of Lent can be a tough subject for your youngest kiddos, I find that it is great to focus on the love of Jesus and trying to share that love by helping others. Following are several books that I ADORE, and find that they do a wonderful job of portraying the skills of helping others and being great friends. Following are some of my favorites that will be pulled into class this week. Click on each book below for more information.
Overall, this week will be focusing on some great Learning through Lent concepts that will draw upon their reading, math, counting, number recognition, and social development skills. Can't wait to learn and grow with our cutest group of kiddos!!!
PS: God is blessing us with a BEAUTIFUL day tomorrow. So, we will be getting plenty of outside learning in (which is the best kind)!!!! We won't miss out on an opportunity to go on a Nature Walk, which the kiddos always LOVE. Click on the following for an at-home print out.
