I LOVE the Feeding of the 5,000 Bible Study!!!! One of my earliest memories from Vacation Bible School was making unleavened bread in the church kitchen. We then went outside and had a picnic with this bread and goldfish. While I enjoyed the goldfish MUCH more than the bread I created, this activity and message stayed with me my entire life. It was this somewhat tangible story that helped me understand and believe in how miraculous God and Jesus really are. They were able to take just a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish and feed thousands (not to mention that it was a 'little boy's lunch' that offered up the bounty to feed everyone)!
So, we will be taking this concept into my classroom this week! We will be learning some measuring skills by baking our own batch of unleavened bread, and of course I think we might just have some goldfish to accompany our huge picnic feast!!!
Feeding of the 5,000 Bread Recipe
1 cup flour
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/8 tspn salt
1/3 cup water
Give each kiddos a square of Parchment Paper. Mix flour, oil & salt together in a bowl. Gradually add water until dough is soft. Using hands, form dough into 6-8 balls. Let each kiddo work with their dough and eventually press into disks onto their piece of parchment paper. Easily place each paper directly onto baking sheet and Bake at 425 for 8-10 minutes. Discuss God's miracles and enjoy!!!
