So, I originally thought we were going to get one, huge painting session in on Wednesday, but then I remembered (Mrs. Racz reminded me only 5 thousand times) that we would have a substitute for Mrs. Racz that day. Mrs. Frolich is amazing and the kids love her, but I need my Mrs. Racz to keep the messiness contained so I thought I would put that idea on the shelf for the day.
We ended up reading 'Pete the Cat: Sir Pete the Brave' by James Dean. The class adored this book. Half of the kiddos fell in love with Lady Callie and the other half rooted for the Dragon. I could tell one of my nuggets knew this book very well and that made it even more fun! I then had them at the table with this rather advanced Dragon cutting project. The amount that this class has improved in their writing, cutting and attention to task skills is truly amazing! Each and everyone of them worked so hard with their little fingers cutting so closely to those intricate lines. I was beaming with joy. So..... we still have to color our pieces and then paste them together as it was a puzzle dinosaur activity. They were so proud of their work, and I promised them that we would keep on working on it on Friday!
I also have a few cute odd and end worksheets for them to work on throughout the day. This 'Color the Farm Animal' worksheet has a few of my nuggets names written all over it. I want them to feel as if they are readers while they are doing their work. Even if they are using cues such as pictures, key words, or general context, they are reading! I encourage that so much in our room and try to tell them that they are dynamic readers everyday!!! I also just thought this 'Gumball' template was too cute. We will be sure to have some fun with this one!
