I am currently taking an amazing course for pulling Science into the classroom. It has given me some great tips and strategies! My goal is to incorporate some more science, technology, engineering and math into our curriculum. There is so much wonder and amazement that can be generated within these subjects and I know our kiddos will love some of the interesting and hands on topics.
First up, we will begin warming up our brains by talking about sizes... big, medium and large. We will be comparing different objects to determine which one is bigger, longer, heavier and more. We will explore how we are able to tell? These concepts will address number recognition elements, counting concepts, spacial awareness, measuring practice, patterns and much more!
Next, the kiddos will be measuring their own hands with blocks. This is a very tangible way for the kiddos to learn the concept of measurement. It will also strengthening their counting and number skills! They will LOVE the opportunity to measure their very own hand and maybe we will have to get a foot in there, as well! I can not wait to see how this plays out in the classroom. I think we are going to have a lot of fun with this one!
Once we get some of the fundamental concepts down, we are going to take advantage of the winter season and make our own Snow Measuring Stick!!! First up, we will be talking about measuring.
To get the kiddos engaged, each student will be making their very own Snow Measuring Stick. The kiddos will love being able to take home their very on Snow Measuring Stick so they are all ready for that next snow storm. What a great way to get our kiddos excited about science and math?
