Tomorrow we are going to talk about one of my FAVORITE topics of 'How Full Is Your Bucket?'!!! Our entire school uses this concept and I also refer to this at home, as well. It is something great for both adults & kids to think about. The theme comes from the book, 'How Full Is Your Bucket for Kids,' by Tom Rath & Mary Reckmeyer. We will be reading this story in class, and then each of the students will receive their own (individually decorated) 'bucket' to take home along with pom poms to fill it up with.
The general concept is that when we make good choices, we not only fill our own bucket, but we fill the buckets of others (including God’s). Yet, when we make some not so great choices, our buckets empty out a bit. We will use the term ‘filling our bucket’ often in class.
We will also have a class bucket as shown above. Each of the students will take turns placing additional pom poms on the bucket when great choices are made. Once our Class Bucket is full, we will celebrate with a special treat!
We will also pull a little movement into our fun day by having a bucket filling relay race!
Can't wait for tomorrow!
On Monday, we got busy in the kitchen!!!! Our Apple 'Pies' (probably more like an Apple Turn Overs) turned out beautifully! We used Dough, Apples, Cinnamon, Butter & Sugar to create a tasty treat. I would say there was about a 50:50 split on those that LOVED their treat, and those that dug in with their Goldfish 1st! Again, our snack time is truly a wonderful experience. We often eat after coming in from outside. We use the bathroom, wash our hands, chant our fun prayer and then they are ready to relax and enjoy their meal and they are HUNGRY!!! I try not to rush this moment as some of the BEST stories come out during time. It truly is a wonderful sense of community!!!
We also filled our day with many other fun activities!
Up next for Wednesday, is a bit of this & that. Our days our so full that sometimes we do not get to all of our fun planned activities. So, Mrs. Racz & I want to play a little catch up!
As promised, today was ALL about Apples, Apples, Apples. We read 'Ten Apples Up On Top' by Dr. Suess to get us ready for our taste testing! The kids had a blast trying Red, Green & Yellow apples (thank you for sending those along with your kiddies). We had some very strong opinions on preference, which I love. Check out our Apple Graph that the kids helped make. It is hanging up right outside of our door!
Here are a few more items that we did today.
We continue to have a great time with each other in class. The kids are getting to know their new friends and they are doing a great job helping others! We spent a lot of time talking about friendship and feelings.
You all should have received a 'Friendship Bug' to keep in your home.
Our friendship bug is individual and unique just like God made each of our classmates. He can be named, loved and moved around your home.
Our classroom will have a special Friendship Bug (which we will name together). We will keep an eye on him as he is known to move around our classroom. Whenever we see our Friendship Bug at school, church or home, we will know that we have a friend in Jesus and he is always by our side.
Next up.... Apple, Apples, Apples. Among our many fun activities, we will have an Apple Toss, Graph our Favorite Apple Color, Create an Apple Core Craft, Walk with Apples on our Head, and make mini Apple Pies to eat in class!!!!
Welcome back! The Rain did not stop us! We had lots of smiles again!!! The kids had a blast reading and learning all about germs. I hope they were able to bring home some of our new tips that we learned. We created our 'Germ Binoculars' and 'swabbed' the church for all the germs. They were then placed in our 'Germ Jar' where they are sure to stay. We will watch to see what transforms in our jar as the germs grow (I bet it won't be pretty, but at least they are away from us).
We also read 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt. The kids thought the crayons were a hoot, and that peach crayon....well..... In the spirit of the book, we put our art smocks on and painted a huge crayon our favorite color. We have a great guy to clean our church, and he has his work cut out for him when he comes to our room. I tell him that a sign of a great day, is a ton of mess and we accomplished that with our paint projects!!!!
Lots of Laurie Berkner Band was playing in the background. I can tell many of the kiddos have heard those songs before. We just had a fun, casual day of playing, learning & sharing in God's love. A true blessing to have these guys in my class!
A bit more on friendship and building our community in God's love. Then, we are onto Fall Apple Fun!!!!
Week number 2 and we got this! I'm so excited to get back into the classroom with our kiddies. On Monday, we are going to reconnect, spend a little more time talking about our likes and preferences. We are going to read, The Day the Crayons Quite by Drew Daywalt. Then, we are going to get our smocks on and paint a HUGE crayon that is our favorite color.
Since we are all back in school, it's that time of year when the germs come to visit. We are going to read a great book on germs and spend some time on ways to help keep our germs to ourselves. We will be 'swabbing' all through out our school to pick up any germs in places where they often hang (bathrooms, door handles, railings, etc). Once we have done an amazing job as 'Germ Detectives' we are going to throw all of them into our Germ Jar. We will keep an eye on that jar to see what happens inside. Stay tuned....
Friday was a GREAT day and we continued to have a classroom full of smiles!!! We took a lot of time getting to know everyone! We also had our 1st special birthday treat of munchkins for snack time. The kids were thrilled! Following is a peek at what we did!
We had a great 1st week! Looking ahead we will be discussing more about how we are ALL unique and wonderful as God made us that way, having a chat on germs & how to keep those in check if possible and then we are moving onto Fall Fun with Apples!!!
We had a GREAT 1st day of school!!!! There were many, many smiles in our classroom. It was a big first day for many of us so we took our time and enjoyed getting to know each other. Here is a touch of what we did.
Our 1st Day is Here!!!! Our Classroom is ready, supplies are stocked, snacks are replenished, teachers are rested and we are so ready to welcome your little ones into our spot of fun, discovering, learning and love of God.
During our 1st Days and Weeks of School, we will be talking about 'Building a Sense of Community'! We want our littlest ones to feel comfortable in themselves as well as valuing the differences among their friends. We are all God's children and he loves each and every one of us for who we are. We will be doing a series of activities to help us become comfortable in ourselves and with our new friends.
Here is a general schedule for our day.
Welcome parents & students! We are so excited to have you in our class. You will be able to find lots of great information here about what your child is doing and important events. Please feel free to visit this site often!
I will usually post the key activities and lessons for each day if you would like to know what your child is doing in class.
Following are the Beginning of the Year Files that may be helpful for your 1st few days and weeks of school.
