It is Ash Wednesday and the start of our Lenten journey!!!  We will be talking about Ash Wednesday, the meaning of Lent and how it helps us to prepare for the magical Easter Season!!!  During the Lenten Season, the kiddos will receive hand prints with 'a special something extra' that they should at home during this season.   It will be a simple task such as help clear the table. Yet, it helps to remind our nuggets that they are the HELPING HANDS of JESUS!!!  This is a great way of reminding us all about our journey during Lent!

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You See?

So, tomorrow is National Polar Bear!  I will be honest and tell you that I did not know something like this existed until I became a PreK Teacher.  ...But now I do!!!!  So we will be taking some time to chat about Polar Bears, where they live, climate, what they eat and more!

I promised I was going to work on pulling some more STEM into our classroom so tomorrow I will be keeping up my word.   We are going to do this neat, little experiment with ice and vegetable oil as a barrier.  The kiddos will predict if their hand will be colder with or without the blubber.   There are 2 plastic bags.  The one has oil and the other one is empty inside so they slip their hand in and stay clean ( I think)!   We will make a graph before and after the experiment to chart our progress.  I will let you know how this one turns out!!!

It's Friday Fun Day in our Room!  And by in our Room, I mean OUTSIDE because that is where we will be most of the day to enjoy the 70 weather in Feb!!!!   We are taking our learning outside!!!

I also wanted to mention that we are starting with 'Class Jobs' this week.  We used to have a 'Happy Helper', which the kiddos loved.  I told them that they have moved onto the next level where they are now responsible to have their own job each day.  We will rotate through the jobs to distribute the workload!!!  Following are the jobs.  Be sure to ask your kiddo which one he/she was each day!  I am sure they will love sharing!!!!
  • Schedule Helper (In charge of managing the schedule pictures for the day).
  • Weatherman (In charge of telling us and choosing pictures to display our weather).
  • Clean Up Helper (In charge of clean up tasks... I need this at home :).
  • Snack Helper (Helps hand out snack).
  • 'How Full is your Bucket' Helper (In chareg of pointing out & making those great choices that fill up our buckets and God's as well)!
  • Line Leader (Front of the line)!
  • Attendance Helper (hands out name cards to kiddos to post that they are 'here')!

Next week is busy with Ash Wednesday, Dr. Seuss's Bday, National Polar and so much more!!!

Welcome Back, President's Day, It's all about Choice & let's Graph!

We were so busy with Valentine's Day and Doughnut's w/Dad Day last week that we did not even get a chance to chat about President's Day.  So, we are going to rewind the clock a touch and celebrate this special day in our class tomorrow!
I am going to let our kiddos choose between their preferred painting style for our project tomorrow.  Some will love to get their hands dirty and go for the finger painting (I know I would) and others will be much happier with the mess-free version of pom pom painting.  Either way, it is a win!  I love the pom pom flag as it is great practice for those fine motor skills.   The finger paint is also a great sensory output activity!  It will be fun to see which option the kiddos pick.
We will also graph how many chose to use finger paint and how many chose to use pom poms. The kiddos will be sure to have their red, white & blue colors down for sure!

We will also be reading the adorable book, 'Let's Be Thankful' by P.K. Hallinan.  This is a great quick read as we have all been a little out of practice for circle time after our long break, so we will ease back into things.  Also, with a high of 62 degrees for tomorrow, we will be leaving PLENTY of time in our schedule to get the kiddos moving and groving OUTSIDE!!!

Here's a peek at our day!

We have a little bit of this and that planned for Wednesday. ..

First, we have Doughnuts with Dad!  Can't Wait!!! Then, we have a special guest story time reader to celebrate Zoey's bday!!!

Since Monday was Valentine's Day and we have off the next few days, we have just 1 day this week for a lesson.  So, I thought we would pull a little 'We are Fishermen of Jesus' into the mix.  I will read to the nuggets out of my favorite Kiddo Bible the story of 'Helpers and Friends.'  We will talk about how we are all called to follow Jesus in our own, special way.  We will then have the chance to go fishing!!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Just a cute, little gift for my Sunday School and PreK kiddos.  I love to remind my own nuggets that mistakes are AWESOME because they give us a 'do-over'.  I'll pick great use of an eraser over a pencil any day in my home.  If only adults, could give ourselves the same break that we tend to give our kiddos.  Jesus washes away our sins and make us 'okay' just the way we are!!!  A thought to remember for both adults and kiddos!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!!

Some wanted the snow and others did not.  Regardless of which side you were on, we got it and what a beautiful snowfall it is!  I call this a 'clean break' as both work and schools were closed.  There was no shuffling of my kiddos, rearranging schedules, delays, etc.  It was a simple wake up, let the kiddos unwind from their normally busy schedules and let mom catch up!!!  I plan to get into the kitchen, take care of every stitch of laundry, organize my office, clean out my closet, catch up on lesson planning, work ahead in my own school work and start planning Vacation Bible School.  Oh, and watch a movie with my kiddos!   I'll let you know what gets checked off the list!

If you have a moment, grab your Snow Measuring Stick and let your kiddos discover how much snow we had!  If you would like to write the number down, and send it in with your kiddos, we will create a quick graph in class!  If it doesn't happen, no worries!

I found this really cool idea @ www.funathomewithkids.com for water coloring.  You use a white crayon to make pictures, letters, names, numbers, etc on the paper.  The kiddos will not be able to see it UNTIL they start using their water colors to paint over it.  The paint will not absorb on the white crayon so the mystery picture reveals itself.  I have some fun letter L's already to be discovered tomorrow morning!  This one seems like a great at-home activity as it is so simple and relatively mess free (just don't use it until after tomorrow :)!
